I live in a small housing estate in Castletroy. The estate is made up of approximately 50 “one up, one down” houses – that means that not only do I have neighbours to the left and right of me, but I also have neighbours above me. Up until a couple of months ago, it was a nice quiet area.
Then over the space of a couple of weeks I got a whole new set of neighbours.
All three neighbours around me are new, and all three have a penchant for playing loud music at all hours of the morning, noon and night. If the noise isn’t coming from one house, it’s coming from another.
It’s gotten to the stage, where it’s really beginning to become a nuisance. I work late, and I often have to be up early. Listening to the walls vibrate at 4:30 am is not especially conducive to getting some shuteye.
I’ve tried asking each of the neighbours at one time or another to ask them to turn it down. When I have been able to get an answer, they have turned down the music. Generally that works for a night or two and then it’s back to “normal” again. Other times, the music has been so loud that the people on the house can’t even hear a knock on the door.
I’ve contacted the estate management company, but while they seem to be helpful over the phone, nothing’s changed since I first called them two months ago. At one stage the music was so loud that I had to call the GardaÃ, but surprisingly enough they didn’t come out.
I’m seriously considering moving house. I have the option to contact the City Council, but I’d rather not going down the route of having this end up in court.
So any ideas? What would you do in my situation?
