I was in town the other day and got my hands on the Firefly DVD set. I’m about half way through the series, and enjoying every minute. Posting may be a bit irregular while I get through the second half of the set!

Sunday, January 6th, 2008What Software Do You Use to Manage Your DVD Collection?
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008Over the past couple of years I’ve been building up my DVD collection. It’s now passed the respectable mark of 300 DVD’s. I used to use an Access database on my Windows machine to manage my collection, but since I’ve moved over to Mac, the database has fallen a bit behind.
I suppose I could create a MySQL database and do up a simple web-based front end, but that’s a bit more work than I want to put in. So the question is, what Mac software would you recommend for managing a DVD collection?
DVD Review: Dave Gormans Googlewhack Adventure
Thursday, December 6th, 2007I’ve spent over a decade of my life working in bars. That’s just under one third of my life listening to people telling stories. Some stories have been funny, some have been sad, and some have been, well, just crap. Some storytellers told their tales with energy and verve, some have had the timing of a one armed guitar player.
Dave Gorman is a great storyteller. And he has a great story to tell. As he says himself, his comedy has a plot, and it’s a plot that you’ll want watch right to the end. From the seemingly most absurd situations to the most touching emotional states, his is a story worth watching. I won’t give away the plot, but I will say this. Get it, watch it, and laugh. You’ll be glad you did!
Early Sesame Street Episodes: For Adults Only
Monday, November 19th, 2007OK, so the title may be a bit misleading, but that doesn’t make it any less true. The first episodes of Sesame Street have been released on DVD, but with a warning: “These early ‘Sesame Street’ episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today’s preschool child.â€?
Apparently Cookie Monster teaches kids to over-indulge in biscuits, Oscar was depressed, Ernie was slow and Big Bird was hallucinating. (LSD perhaps?).
So now I know why I’ve turned out the way I have. It was all those episodes of Sesame Street that did it.
Just as well that the politically correct brigade is out there protecting the kids of today. Imagine the lunacy that would be unleashed if just one 4 year old caught a glimpse of an early Sesame Street episode? It could devastate our entire society. Governments could fall, empires collapse and the developed world could become a cultural wasteland.
Please, think of the children. Be careful of when and where you watch Sesame Street. And remember, Bert is Evil.
The Hogfather on DVD
Monday, September 24th, 2007I’m a huge fan of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. At this stage I’ve read nearly the entire series, and own most of them. I didn’t get a chance to see this on Sky One at Christmas, so I’ve been eagerly waiting for this to be released on DVD.
I eventually got around to ordering it from play.com and I just had to watch it as soon as it arrived, and it was every bit as good as I had heard it was.
The casting I thought was perfect, I can’t imagine anyone who is better suited to play Albert than David Jason, and the performance of Marc Warren as Teatime, (that’s tee-ah-tim-ee, you insensitive clod), was scary.
I won’t give away any of the plot, but this book was always one of my favourites, and I have to say that this live action adaption does it full justice. If you’re a Discworld fan, and haven’t seen this movie, then what are you waiting for?

Random Quotes
Wednesday, January 24th, 2007I’ve just installed Joe’s Quote Widget, which you can find in my sidebar. It displays a random quote from The Simpsons, Futuramaor Family Guy, each time you load the page.
Speaking of Family Guy, I recently bought the first 4 series and got my hands on a copy of the 5th season, and have spent the last few days watching as much as I can. Considering the amount of work that I have to get done, I’m really putting my time to great use. At least, I have a new bunch of catch phrases to use.
