I didn’t even get to drink the tea.

Moving House

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

I’m in the midst of moving house, so things are really, really hectic at the moment. I probably won’t be posting until I get settled in.

Bye a while.

Back to Work

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

I head back to work today after the Christmas break. It’s wet, miserable and I’m too used to sitting on my backside doing nothing. At least I’m on holidays again next week!

Terry Pratchett Is Not Dead

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Terry Pratchett has just released the news that he has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers disease. Despite this shock, Terry has asked his fans to stay optimistic, and that there’s a few more books left in him yet.

I’ve read nearly everything that Terry has written, (I’ve just ordered his latest novel – Making Money), and this news is a bit of a shock. Here’s to you Terry, I’m sure that I’m not alone when I say I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.

Ludicrous

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Somebody famous died today. You may be able to put a face to the name, then again, you may not be able to. I can nearly guarantee that no matter your age, you have seen a photograph of this person. But given this persons contribution to their selected profession, there’s hardly been a word in the press.

On the other hand we have a “pretty girl“, known to absolutely no-one outside this insular island of ours, and she gets 8 pages in a national newspaper.

Enough said.

On the Way Out

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Over the last couple of days, I’ve developed a sniffle, my head feels slightly stuffy, I’ve started to talk through my nose and I think that I’m feeling a small bit weak. It might be O’nyong-nyong, or Chikungunya, though there’s a decent chance that it may be Avian Flu. I’m telling you, I’m on the way out!

Noisy Neighbours

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

I live in a small housing estate in Castletroy. The estate is made up of approximately 50 “one up, one down” houses – that means that not only do I have neighbours to the left and right of me, but I also have neighbours above me. Up until a couple of months ago, it was a nice quiet area.

Then over the space of a couple of weeks I got a whole new set of neighbours.

All three neighbours around me are new, and all three have a penchant for playing loud music at all hours of the morning, noon and night. If the noise isn’t coming from one house, it’s coming from another.

It’s gotten to the stage, where it’s really beginning to become a nuisance. I work late, and I often have to be up early. Listening to the walls vibrate at 4:30 am is not especially conducive to getting some shuteye.

I’ve tried asking each of the neighbours at one time or another to ask them to turn it down. When I have been able to get an answer, they have turned down the music. Generally that works for a night or two and then it’s back to “normal” again. Other times, the music has been so loud that the people on the house can’t even hear a knock on the door.

I’ve contacted the estate management company, but while they seem to be helpful over the phone, nothing’s changed since I first called them two months ago. At one stage the music was so loud that I had to call the Gardaí, but surprisingly enough they didn’t come out.

I’m seriously considering moving house. I have the option to contact the City Council, but I’d rather not going down the route of having this end up in court.

So any ideas? What would you do in my situation?

I Officially Own a Race Horse

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

I’ve written before about Elletelle, who’s owned in part by a friend of mine. He’s bought another horse, and wanted some of his friends to join his syndicate. So after some thought, I decided to sign on.

So now I’m part owner of Coolstar, a 1 year old colt. Hopefully, he’ll be racing next summer. If nothing else, we should get a couple of good days out. Breaking even on the venture is what we’re aiming for. Anything else is going to be a bonus. But still, fingers crossed ;)

I’m not sure if I should be publishing this, but here goes:

I’m thinking that it’s kinda sad.

I Want One of These

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

My short of choice is Jaegermeister and Red Bull. So this would be just perfect for me. Unfortunately, the manufacturer will only sell it within the US.
