Apart from a couple of years in the call centre wilderness, I’ve spent nearly 17 years working in bars, restaurants and night-clubs.

Back to Work
Monday, January 5th, 2009After two weeks and two days off I go back to work tomorrow. That’s sixteen days of sitting back and not doing a whole lot.
Sixteen days of going to bed late and getting up late.
Sixteen days of doing what I liked, when I liked.
From tomorrow at 9am I have to get back in the mindset of concentrating on something else for a minimum of 8 hours a day.
In one way, I’m looking forward to getting back. I’m bored and there’s only so much to do to fill in the hours.[1]
In another way, I’m dreading going back tomorrow. It’s going to be hard work. It’s going to be a long day and, worst of all, it’s going to be a day of making small talk revolving around variations of “How was your Christmas?”.
The only thing that will make it worthwhile is the fact that everyone else is in the same boat.

At Last, The Holidays
Sunday, December 23rd, 2007It’s been a long, hard week at work, but it’s finally over and I can begin to put my feet up and relax. As soon as I get myself organised and up home that is.
So enjoy the holidays, and I’ll see you in the new year.
End of Term
Friday, December 14th, 2007Next week marks the end of term in UL. That means that as the various classes finish up, I’ll be getting busier at work. This day next week will be our last night before the Christmas holidays and I can wave goodbye to the place for 2 blissful weeks.
I’ll be heading up home for a few days over the Christmas period. With limited net access at home and a very busy week next week, this means that my posting will be sporadic at best. I may get a few more in before the madness begins, but in the meantime, I’ll see you when I see you.
RAG Week Starts Today
Monday, March 12th, 2007Raising and Giving (RAG) week starts today. Now there’s a misnomer if I ever heard one. RAG week is a thinly disguised excuse to go on the lash for a week. You raise the money for the beer and I’ll give it to you. That’s about it. The downside is that I’m going to be up the walls this week, the upside is that I get to listen to Director, The Blizzards, and Fred.
