Back to Work

Monday, January 5th, 2009

After two weeks and two days off I go back to work tomorrow. That’s sixteen days of sitting back and not doing a whole lot.

Sixteen days of going to bed late and getting up late.

Sixteen days of doing what I liked, when I liked.

From tomorrow at 9am I have to get back in the mindset of concentrating on something else for a minimum of 8 hours a day.

In one way, I’m looking forward to getting back. I’m bored and there’s only so much to do to fill in the hours.[1]

In another way, I’m dreading going back tomorrow. It’s going to be hard work. It’s going to be a long day and, worst of all, it’s going to be a day of making small talk revolving around variations of “How was your Christmas?”.

The only thing that will make it worthwhile is the fact that everyone else is in the same boat.

  1. I’m a night owl, so there’s not a whole lot to do in the early hours beside surf and watch crappy television. []

First Week Back

Monday, February 5th, 2007

I managed to get through the first week back to work after my holidays. Even though the students are still on their break, and the college is pretty quiet, it was still a long, tough week.

I’ve never understood why I always find the first couple of days back after my holidays to be the hardest. Given that I didn’t do anything stressful or tiring when I was off, I should have been full of energy and ready to get stuck in when I went back to work, but I wasn’t. Anyway, the week is done, one more and the second semester starts. Bring on “Rag Week“.

End of The Holidays

Monday, January 29th, 2007

I’m officially finished my holidays today. So out of my list of things to do, I managed to complete just one of them – I did manage to make it home for my brothers going away party. Jim flies off to Australia on Wednesday for at least a year. So best of luck to him, and I hope he enjoys it.

Off For A Week

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

I’m starting a weeks holidays today, and do I need it. The last week has been fairly hectic due to the end of term, so I need a bit of a rest. Not that I’m going to get it, I have too much work to do. I have a website to design, another site to update, a system to rebuild from scratch, I need to catch up on my PHP reading list, I have to go up home to see my brother before he jets off to Australia…. the list goes on and on. Though chances are that I’ll end up spending most of my time either sleeping or posting here.

Auld Lang Syne…

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

It’s that time of the year again. Time to make your resolutions. Time to dust down the memories of the past year, and to look forward to the new.
